Beach. Sand. Sun. Shopping. Great food. All of these things Miami has in abundance. Located on the southeastern tip of the peninsula of the state of Florida, Miami borders the Atlantic Ocean on the east. Situated nearby to the west are the Everglades Wildlife Conservation Area and Big Cypress National Preserve. A bit further southwest is the Everglades National Park. Outdoor adventurers will also enjoy visiting Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. A mere 20 minutes from the city, it features a historic lighthouse placed on some of the area’s most secluded and pristine beaches. ($5 US per car)

Inquisitive kids will love the Miami Children’s Museum. It teems with hundreds of exhibits and hands-on learning opportunities. Adults will like both its fun, educational vibe and the relatively low price ($15 US).
Within the city, there are more shopping sites and fine restaurants than can be mentioned in anything smaller than a guidebook. These range from the chicest and most mind-numbingly expensive to the very affordable. Architectureaficionados would particularly be interested in a tour of the Art Deco District. This fascinating section is bounded by Dade Boulevard on the north, 6th Street on the south, Alton Road to the west, and the Atlantic Ocean to the East. For more information, tourists can stop by the Art Deco Welcome Center, 1001 Ocean Drive.

The weather here is uniformly warm. In the summer time, it is downright hot, with humidity and lots of rain. In the Atlantic, hurricane season runs from June to November, with September considered to be peak time. Nervous travelers may want to keep that in mind. For many Northerners, a winter break in Miami is just the thing to keep them ready for spring.
