Dallas: Boots, Horse, and to Barbeque!

In all fairness, one must note that neither horses nor boots are requirements of travellers visiting Dallas. But barbeque? This is a place that takes its food seriously.

Dallas is located in the northern part of the state of Texas. It’s the third largest city in the state and the ninth largest in the United States. Originally, it was founded by the banks of the Trinity River, which was later obscured by levees, or giant earthen walls that protect against flooding. Even later in Dallas’ history, the Trinity was diverted, leaving only a shallow trickle to meander through the city. Now, efforts are underway to bring the river – and the surrounding shoreline – back to its original state.
In terms of weather, Dallas has a humid, subtropical climate. This means that summers can be uncomfortable, with temperatures topping 38 degrees. To make it even more challenging, warm and dry summer winds boost the heat index further still. However, winters are generally mild and often clear and sunny. Spring and fall bring weather that is pleasant but occasionally unstable, producing some spectacularthunderstorms.
Now to the barbeque. A quick search brought up about 250 restaurants in Dallas that specialize in barbeque alone. While this changes from region to region (and within different parts of the same state), Texas-style barbeque is considered one of the finest examples, period. And the portions are more than ample.

There is a veritable multitude of activities in Dallas and the surrounding areas. These include the ever-popular museums, theatres, shopping, and golf courses. Sports fans can take in hockey and basketball games, while nearby Arlington hosts baseball and football teams. Something for everyone? That’s Dallas.
